Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Flavoring extract (vanilla, mint, etc.)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Lollipop sticks
- Candy thermometer
- Medium saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- Heat-resistant bowl
- Wax paper or silicone mat
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water.
- Stir continuously over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Once dissolved, add a few drops of your chosen flavoring extract and food coloring, if using.
- Attach the candy thermometer to the side of the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring, and let it cook until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Once at the correct temperature, carefully remove the pan from heat.
- While the sugar solution cools slightly, lay out wax paper or a silicone mat.
- Use a spoon to drop small mounds of candy onto the prepared surface.
- Quickly insert lollipop sticks into the candy blobs before they harden.
- Let the lollipops cool completely until they harden into a sparkly finish (about 30 minutes).
Notes
For best results, use a candy thermometer. You can experiment with flavor extracts and toppings for unique variations.
