Description

A fun and festive recipe that combines baking with science, perfect for families and kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (various colors for a rainbow effect)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while you prepare the batter.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined — be careful not to overmix.
  5. Divide the batter into small cups or a muffin tin, filling each about halfway. Add a few drops of food coloring to each cup and swirl with a toothpick for fun designs.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow the science cubes to cool slightly before removing them from the tin.

Notes

Customize flavors by adding lemon zest or almond extract. For gluten-free, swap all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
