Description

Create your own snow volcano with this fun and educational craft that combines science and creativity. Watch the eruption unfold as you explore chemical reactions hands-on!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Large tray or baking sheet
  • Plastic bottle or small container (for the volcano structure)
  • Snow (artificial or real)
  • Spoon (for mixing)

Instructions

  1. Choose your container, using a plastic bottle or small container as the volcanic structure, and surround it with snow to form a mountain shape.
  2. In a bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and a few drops of food coloring. Stir until smooth.
  3. Pour the baking soda mixture into the container in the center of the snow volcano, then slowly pour 1 cup of vinegar into the container.
  4. Observe the baking soda reaction with the vinegar, causing foamy eruptions that cascade down the snow. Encourage kids to add more food coloring for a colorful effect!

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations, and consider adding essential oils for a scented eruption. Supervise children to ensure safety during the activity.
