Description
Create your own snow volcano with this fun and educational craft that combines science and creativity. Watch the eruption unfold as you explore chemical reactions hands-on!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1 tablespoon dish soap
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Large tray or baking sheet
- Plastic bottle or small container (for the volcano structure)
- Snow (artificial or real)
- Spoon (for mixing)
Instructions
- Choose your container, using a plastic bottle or small container as the volcanic structure, and surround it with snow to form a mountain shape.
- In a bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and a few drops of food coloring. Stir until smooth.
- Pour the baking soda mixture into the container in the center of the snow volcano, then slowly pour 1 cup of vinegar into the container.
- Observe the baking soda reaction with the vinegar, causing foamy eruptions that cascade down the snow. Encourage kids to add more food coloring for a colorful effect!
Notes
Experiment with different food coloring combinations, and consider adding essential oils for a scented eruption. Supervise children to ensure safety during the activity.
