Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
  2. In a separate saucepan, combine the water, vegetable oil, and food coloring if using.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring continuously.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the dough forms and thickens.
  5. Once the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan and forms a ball, remove it from heat.
  6. Allow it to cool slightly before kneading it with clean hands for a silky smooth texture.
  7. Place the play dough in an airtight container when fully cooled.

Notes

For scented play dough, add essential oils. Store properly to last several weeks.
