Description

Transform simple ingredients into stunning seashell-like crystals with this engaging DIY project, perfect for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup table salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • A small pot for boiling
  • A heat-resistant glass container (like a mason jar)
  • A whisk or spoon for stirring
  • A paper towel or clean cloth
  • Baking sheet or tray

Instructions

  1. Prepare your solution: In a small pot, boil 1 cup of water. Gradually add 1 cup of table salt and stir continuously until dissolved. Add food coloring if desired.
  2. Set up your crystallization container: Pour the salt solution into a heat-resistant glass container, leaving some space at the top.
  3. Create crystal structures: Place the container on a baking sheet to catch spills and set it in a warm, undisturbed location for 24-48 hours.
  4. Finishing touches: Once crystals form, gently remove them from the jar with a paper towel, rinse with cool water, and allow to dry completely.

Notes

Try swapping salt with sugar for different crystal effects. Experiment with colors for a rainbow effect.
