Description

Create an explosive salt volcano at home that teaches kids about chemical reactions and geology while having fun.

Ingredients

  • Table salt
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Small container (like a plastic cup)
  • Tray or large dish (to catch spills)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Volcano Base: Find a suitable outdoor or messy-friendly area and set up the tray on a flat surface.
  2. Build the Volcano: Pour a mound of salt into the center of the tray and make a small hole in the top for the volcano’s opening.
  3. Prepare the Eruption Mixture: Add about 1 tablespoon of baking soda into the hole and drop in food coloring, if using.
  4. Erupt! Pour vinegar into the hole gently and observe the exciting fizzing and bubbling.

Notes

Customize with different colors for various eruptions and swap ingredients to enhance the experience. Adult supervision is recommended.
