Description

A visually stunning dish that simulates a volcano formation using flavorful ingredients, creating a fun and memorable dining experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 cups coarse sea salt
  • 1 cup egg whites (about 45 eggs)
  • Your choice of protein (e.g., chicken, fish, or vegetables)
  • Fresh herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme)
  • Optional: garlic cloves, lemon slices, or spices for flavoring

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the coarse sea salt with the egg whites to create a paste-like consistency.
  2. Mix well until the salt holds together when pressed.
  3. Choose your protein: If using chicken or fish, cut into appropriate portions.
  4. Season your filling with fresh herbs, garlic, or lemon slices as desired.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. On a baking sheet, create a small mound with your salt mixture, about 1 inch tall.
  7. Place your prepared protein on top of the mound and cover it with the remaining salt mixture, shaping it into a volcano form. Ensure the top has a peak.
  8. Carefully place the baking sheet into the preheated oven.
  9. Bake for about 30-40 minutes, or until the salt crust is firm and lightly golden.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
  11. Crack open the salt crust using a mallet or heavy spoon and serve immediately.

Notes

Experiment with different herbs and spices to customize your volcano. Consider using aquafaba for a vegan option.
