Description

Create delightful and customizable salt dough turkey ornaments for your festive decor or as unique gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters (turkey shape or your desired shape)
  • Paints (acrylic or tempera)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Optional: Glitter, ribbon, or beads for decoration
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven

Instructions

  1. Mix the Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt. Gradually stir in 1 cup of water until the mixture forms a dough.
  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a clean surface. Knead it for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and pliable.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  4. Cut Out Turkey Shapes: Use cookie cutters to create turkey shapes. You can also shape the turkeys by hand for a more unique design.
  5. Add Details: Use a toothpick or other sharp object to carve feathers, eyes, and a beak into the dough.
  6. Create Hanging Hole: Before baking, poke a small hole at the top of each turkey for hanging later.
  7. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 250°F (120°C).
  8. Bake the Ornaments: Place the raw turkey shapes on a baking sheet and bake for about 2 hours or until hardened.
  9. Cool Down: Allow them to cool completely before decorating.
  10. Paint Your Turkeys: Use paints to add color and character to your ornaments. Let your imagination run wild!
  11. Add Finishing Touches: Once the paint is dry, add glitter, ribbon, or beads for extra flair.
  12. Thread a String: Finally, thread a piece of ribbon or twine through the hole and tie it securely for hanging.

Notes

Customize colors and scents for a personal touch. Store ornaments in a cool, dry place.
