Description

Create delightful salt dough ornaments that are easy, inexpensive, and customizable for all ages.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters (various shapes)
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven (for baking)
  • Paint or markers (for decoration)
  • Ribbon or string (for hanging)
  • Optional: Glitter, beads, or other embellishments

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt. Gradually add 1 cup of water, stirring continuously until you form a dough. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it’s smooth and pliable.
  2. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out various shapes.
  3. Use a straw or a skewer to create a hole at the top of each ornament for hanging.
  4. Preheat the oven to 200°F (about 90°C). Place the shapes on a baking sheet and bake for 2-3 hours, or until hard.
  5. Allow the ornaments to cool completely. Paint or decorate them to your liking!
  6. Thread ribbon or string through the holes for easy hanging.

Notes

Customize colors with food coloring, and consider using stamps for added texture. Seal finished ornaments with spray sealant for durability.
