Description

A fun and engaging recipe to make colorful rock candy at home, perfect for kids and adults alike!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • A glass jar or container
  • Wooden skewers or string
  • A saucepan
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Flavor extracts (optional, e.g., vanilla, peppermint)
  • A clean cloth or paper towel

Instructions

  1. Clean the skewers or string thoroughly and allow them to dry completely.
  2. Ensure the glass jar is clean and dry.
  3. In a saucepan, mix 2 cups of granulated sugar into 1 cup of water and heat over medium heat.
  4. Stir continuously until the sugar completely dissolves and the syrup becomes clear.
  5. Add a few drops of food coloring and a splash of flavor extract, if desired.
  6. Remove from heat and let the solution cool for about 10-15 minutes.
  7. Insert the skewer into the jar without touching the sides or bottom.
  8. Pour the sugar solution into the jar until it is nearly full.
  9. Cover the jar with a clean cloth to prevent dust and place it in a cool, dry spot.
  10. Over the next 5-10 days, observe the crystals growing on the skewer.

Notes

For bigger crystals, use a larger jar and avoid overcrowding. Experiment with different flavors and color combinations for unique results.
