Ingredients
- Fresh strawberries
- Wooden skewers or lollipop sticks
- Granulated sugar
- Food coloring (optional)
- Water
- Candy thermometer
- Saucepan
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
Instructions
- Wash the strawberries thoroughly under cold water and dry them gently with a paper towel.
- Insert the wooden skewers into the tops of the strawberries.
- Combine sugar and water in a saucepan (typically 2 cups of sugar to 1 cup of water) and heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Optionally add food coloring, stirring well.
- Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature and boil until it reaches the hard crack stage (approximately 300°F).
- Remove from heat and carefully dip each strawberry into the hot syrup to coat.
- Sprinkle additional granulated sugar on top if desired.
- Place coated strawberries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allow to cool completely.
Notes
For added flavor, try infusing the syrup with extracts like vanilla or almond. You can also experiment with other berries such as blueberries or raspberries.
