Description
A delightful and festive treat of popcorn clusters adorned with red and white sprinkles, perfect for summer gatherings and holidays.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup red and white sprinkles
Instructions
- Pop the popcorn: Use an air popper or stovetop method to pop the kernels. Place popped popcorn in a large bowl, making sure to remove any unpopped kernels.
- Cook sugar mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, salt, and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring continuously.
- Add baking soda & vanilla: Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla. The mixture will bubble up—this is perfectly normal!
- Mix popcorn: Pour the hot mixture over the popcorn, using a spatula to gently fold it until the popcorn is evenly coated.
- Shape clusters: Let it cool slightly, then with buttered hands, form small clusters of popcorn and place them on a wax-paper lined baking sheet.
- Add sprinkles: While still warm, sprinkle clusters with red and white sprinkles for a festive touch.
- Let cool: Allow clusters to cool completely until set. Store in an airtight container.
Notes
For a twist, you can substitute with maple syrup or add mini chocolate chips or dried fruit for extra flavor. Ensure the used ingredients are gluten-free for dietary needs.
