Description
Create visually stunning Rainbow Sugar Towers that are not only a treat for the taste buds but also a fun and engaging craft project for all ages.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup water
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Optional flavors (vanilla, lemon, almond extract)
- Parchment paper
- Candy thermometer
- Whisk
- Heat-resistant spatula
- Tall glass or heat-safe jars for tower structure
Instructions
- Prepare your workspace by gathering all materials on a clean surface and laying out parchment paper to catch spills.
- Make the sugar mixture by combining sugar and water in a saucepan and heating over medium heat until it dissolves, stirring occasionally.
- Boil the mixture, placing the candy thermometer in the mixture and allowing it to come to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Add colors and flavors by removing the mixture from heat, dividing it into small bowls, and adding desired food coloring and flavor extracts.
- Create the towers by working quickly to pour layers of colored sugar into tall glasses or jars, alternating colors for a beautiful rainbow effect, and allowing to cool and harden completely.
- Assemble and enjoy by gently removing the hardened sugar towers from the containers and stacking them for a whimsical display or enjoying as individual treats.
Notes
Supervise children when handling hot mixtures and feel free to experiment with different flavors and colors.
