Description

Create vibrant, colorful sugar crystals at home with this fun and educational project, perfect for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Various food coloring
  • Glass jars or clear cups
  • Wooden skewers or sticks
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 spoon
  • String (optional)
  • Paper towels

Instructions

  1. Choose clean, clear jars or cups for crystal growth. Insert a wooden skewer or stick into the jar, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom.
  2. Combine 2 cups of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves.
  3. Remove the pan from heat and add several drops of food coloring, mixing until you achieve your desired colors.
  4. Carefully pour the hot sugar solution into the prepared jars, filling each to about halfway full.
  5. Allow the jars to sit undisturbed at room temperature. In 24 hours, you’ll start seeing crystals forming.
  6. After about a week, carefully remove the skewers and enjoy your colorful sugar crystals!

Notes

Use different food coloring combinations for unique designs and experiment with the sugar solution for larger crystals.
