Description

Create a stunning rainbow lava lamp in a jar that combines science and art, perfect for all ages.

Ingredients

  • Clear glass or plastic jar with a lid
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil (or baby oil)
  • Food coloring (multiple colors)
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets (or similar effervescent tablets)
  • Optional: glitter or small decorations

Instructions

  1. Start with a clean jar, leaving some space near the top to allow for bubbling.
  2. Pour water into the jar until it’s about one-third full.
  3. Slowly pour vegetable oil into the jar until it’s almost full, leaving space at the top.
  4. Drop in various colors of food coloring and observe how they burst through the oil.
  5. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into quarters and drop one quarter into the jar to create bubbles.
  6. Seal the jar with a lid to keep it safe and display it proudly.

Notes

Experiment with different oils and colors, and consider adding glitter for extra sparkle.
