- 1 clear bottle or jar (preferably with a lid)
- Water
- Vegetable oil
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Alka-Seltzer tablets (or vinegar and baking soda)
- LED light (optional for glow effect)
- Funnel (optional)
Instructions
- Fill the clear bottle one-third of the way with water using a funnel.
- Slowly pour vegetable oil into the bottle until it fills nearly to the top, noting that the oil will float on top of the water.
- Add several drops of food coloring to the water and observe as it sinks through the oil.
- Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into quarters and drop a piece into the bottle to create bubbling reactions.
- Optionally, place the bottle on top of an LED light for a glowing effect.
Notes
Experiment with different color combinations, try other clear liquids like tonic water for glow effects, add glitter for sparkle, or swap the reaction agent for vinegar and baking soda.
