Description

Create a mesmerizing Rainbow Glow Lava Lamp at home using simple household items. This vibrant DIY project is both fun and educational, perfect for all ages.

Ingredients

  • Clear bottle or glass jar with a lid
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil (about 2 cups)
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Baking soda (2 tablespoons)
  • Vinegar (1/2 cup)
  • Flashlight or glow sticks (optional for glow effect)

Instructions

  1. Start with a clean, dry bottle or jar. Fill it about one-quarter full with water.
  2. Pour vegetable oil into the water. Watch as the oil sits on top since it’s less dense than water.
  3. Add a few drops of food coloring to the mixture. Observe how it creates colorful blobs that sink through the oil.
  4. In a separate container, mix baking soda with a small amount of water to create a paste. Add this mixture to the bottle.
  5. Carefully pour vinegar into the bottle. The reaction will create bubbles that rise and fall, resembling lava!
  6. For a glowing effect, use a flashlight under your lamp or add glow sticks inside (make sure the sticks aren’t leaking).

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations and use larger containers for a bigger display. This project is safe for children, but adult supervision is recommended.
