Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 4 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cups water
- Food coloring (variety of colors)
- Large mixing bowl
- Saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- Plastic wrap or airtight container
Instructions
- Prepare the dough mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of salt, and 4 tablespoons of cream of tartar. Stir until well mixed, ensuring there are no lumps.
- Add wet ingredients: In a separate saucepan, combine 4 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Heat on medium until the mixture is warm but not boiling.
- Combine ingredients: Slowly pour the warm mixture into the dry ingredients while stirring with a wooden spoon to prevent lumps from forming. Keep stirring until the mixture begins to thicken and form a dough.
- Cook the dough: Place the saucepan on the stove over low heat. Stir continuously for about 3-5 minutes until the dough pulls away from the sides and forms a ball.
- Cool and color: Remove from heat and let the dough cool slightly. Divide the dough into smaller portions based on how many colors you want. Add a few drops of food coloring to each portion and knead until the color is evenly distributed.
- Store the dough: Once fully cooled, wrap each color in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
