Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of sugar or Epsom salt
  • 1 cup of water
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • A heatproof container (like a mason jar)
  • A wooden stick or string
  • A spoon for stirring
  • A small saucepan
  • A stovetop or hot plate
  • Parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Boil 1 cup of water in a saucepan.
  2. Stir in 1 cup of sugar (or Epsom salt) until completely dissolved to form a saturated solution.
  3. Add food coloring to achieve desired hue.
  4. Allow the solution to cool slightly.
  5. Pour the colored solution into the heatproof container.
  6. Secure the wooden stick or string over the container without touching the bottom.
  7. Store the container in a cool, undisturbed area.
  8. Observe the crystals forming over a few days.
  9. Once satisfied, carefully remove the crystal tree and let it dry on parchment paper.

Notes

Experiment with different types of salt or sugar and use multiple color layers for a unique design.
