Ingredients
- Baking powder
- Sugar
- Water
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Pipe cleaners (white or colorful)
- Small containers or jars
- Wooden skewer or spoon (for stirring)
- Optional: Glitter for added sparkle
Instructions
- Prepare the Pipe Cleaners: Twist the pipe cleaners into tree shapes, leaving space at the bottom for easy placement in the jars.
- Mix the Solution: Combine 1 cup of water with 1 cup of sugar. Heat gently on the stove while stirring until completely dissolved, then let cool slightly.
- Add Food Coloring: Divide the solution into bowls and add food coloring, stirring to achieve the desired colors.
- Combine It All: Pour the colored solutions into jars, filling them halfway and place the pipe cleaner trees into the jars ensuring they’re submerged.
- Wait and Observe: Leave the jars in a cool, undisturbed place to observe crystal growth over hours and days.
Notes
For custom colors, mix food colors or use natural dyes. Experiment with different types of sugar for varying textures. Supervise young children during the craft.
