Ingredients

- 1 medium-sized pumpkin
- ¼ cup baking soda
- 1 cup vinegar
- Food coloring (optional)
- Tray or large baking sheet
- Spoon or small cup
- Kettle (optional)
Instructions
- Select a medium-sized pumpkin with a flat bottom for stability.
- Carve the top of the pumpkin to create a wide opening.
- Scoop out the insides to create a hollowed-out chamber.
- Pour the baking soda into the hollowed pumpkin.
- In a separate bowl, mix the vinegar with food coloring if desired.
- Pour the vinegar mixture into the pumpkin and step back to watch the eruption!
- Perform this activity on a tray to contain the mess and compost the pumpkin afterward.
Notes
Encourage kids to use different colors of food coloring and glitter for a magical effect. Adult supervision is recommended.
