- 1 cup salt
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- Food coloring (any color)
- Baking soda (for the eruption)
- Vinegar (for the eruption)
- Optional: small plastic volcano mold or cup
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine flour, salt, cream of tartar, and vegetable oil. Gradually add water and mix to a smooth consistency.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously as the dough thickens.
- Once the dough has cooled slightly, add a few drops of your chosen food coloring and knead until the color is evenly distributed.
- Shape the colored dough into a volcano form, ensuring there’s a hollowed top for the eruption.
- Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda inside the hollowed area of the volcano.
- Pour vinegar into the hollowed area to watch the bubbling reaction create a colorful flow of “lava!”
