Description
Create whimsical and eco-friendly plastic bottle dragonflies for your garden with this fun upcycling project.
Ingredients
- Empty plastic bottles (2-liter or similar size)
- Scissors
- Acrylic paint or spray paint
- Paintbrush (if using paint)
- Permanent markers
- Pipe cleaners (for antennae)
- Googly eyes (optional)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Pencil or marker (for tracing)
- Wire (optional for hanging)
Instructions
- Clean your plastic bottles thoroughly and remove labels.
- Cut the bottles in half. You’ll use the upper part for the body and the lower part for wings.
- Take the bottom half of the bottle and cut it into a butterfly wing shape. Make two pairs of wings for a fuller look.
- Use acrylic or spray paint to color your bottle pieces and let them dry completely.
- Attach the wings to the top part of the bottle using a hot glue gun.
- Add patterns on the wings with markers or paint, and glue on googly eyes if desired.
- Cut two lengths of pipe cleaner and bend them into antenna shapes, then glue them to the top of the bottle.
- For hanging, use a piece of wire or string to create a hook at the top.
Notes
You can swap plastic bottles with other materials like cardboard or metal for unique designs. Experiment with different bottle sizes and consider using glow-in-the-dark paint for night features.
