Description
Create stunning pink crystal geodes using simple household materials and learn about the crystallization process.
Ingredients
Scale
- Empty eggshells (cleaned and dried)
- 1 cup of water
- 3 tablespoons of Borax
- Pink food coloring
- Small mixing bowl
- Spoon or stirring stick
- Baking tray
- Paper towels
Instructions
- Carefully crack your eggs and remove the contents, leaving intact halves. Rinse the eggshells to remove any residue and let them dry completely.
- In your small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of water with 3 tablespoons of Borax. Stir well until the Borax is completely dissolved. This may take a couple of minutes. Add several drops of pink food coloring until your desired shade is achieved.
- Gently place the dried eggshell halves on a baking tray. Using a spoon, fill each eggshell half with the pink Borax solution, filling to the brim.
- Allow the filled eggshells to sit undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours. Observe as beautiful pink crystals start to form along the insides of the eggshell.
- Once crystallization is complete, carefully remove the eggshells from the tray. Tap them lightly to remove excess solution and set aside to dry.
Notes
Customize colors with different food colorings, or swap Borax for Epsom salt to create different crystal structures.
