Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup borax powder
  • Pink food coloring
  • Glass jar
  • String
  • Pencil or chopstick
  • Spoon for stirring

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Solution: Boil water in a saucepan. Gradually add borax powder, stirring until completely dissolved.
  2. Add Color: Add several drops of pink food coloring to the warm solution, mixing until desired shade is achieved.
  3. Set Up Your Jar: Cut a piece of string about 10 inches long. Tie one end around a pencil, positioning it across the top of the jar with the string hanging down.
  4. Crystal Growth: Pour the borax mixture into the jar, ensuring the string hangs in the solution. Let sit undisturbed for about 24 hours to see crystals form.
