Description

A delightful and educational craft project that mimics the beauty of the ocean using common materials.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 clear plastic or glass bottle with a screw top (empty soda bottle or mason jar)
  • Water
  • Blue food coloring
  • Vegetable oil (or baby oil)
  • Small seashells, sand, or glitter (for decoration)
  • Small funnel (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Bottle: Start with a clean, clear bottle. Remove any labels and ensure it’s completely dry.
  2. Add Water: Using a funnel (if needed), pour water into the bottle, filling it about one-third full.
  3. Dye the Water: Add several drops of blue food coloring to the water and stir the mixture to evenly distribute the color.
  4. Add Decorations: Carefully add small seashells, a sprinkle of glitter, or sand to the bottle.
  5. Pour in the Oil: Slowly pour vegetable oil (or baby oil) into the bottle until it’s nearly full.
  6. Seal the Bottle: Secure the lid tightly to prevent spills.
  7. Final Touch: Shake the bottle gently to create waves and observe the interaction of oil and water!

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations and materials for unique effects.
