A fun and educational activity for kids that involves creating colorful ice blocks filled with ocean-themed toys and watching them melt!
Ingredients
- Clear plastic containers or ice cube trays
- Blue food coloring
- Small ocean-themed toys (e.g., sea animals, shells)
- Water
- Salt (optional, for quicker melting)
- Baking sheet or tray (for melting activity)
- Tongs or spoons (for retrieval)
Instructions
- Fill your containers by pouring water into the clear plastic containers or ice cube trays.
- Add a few drops of blue food coloring into the water and mix well to achieve ocean-like hues.
- Place small ocean-themed toys in the water and press them down gently to ensure they are submerged.
- Carefully transfer the containers to the freezer and leave them for at least 4–6 hours or overnight until fully frozen.
- Set up a baking sheet or tray to catch any melting water.
- Run warm water over the outside of the containers for a few seconds to help release the ice.
- Place the ice on the baking sheet and let kids watch as it begins to melt, encouraging them to explore the textures and retrieve ocean treasures as they emerge.
