A fun and educational project that mimics a volcanic eruption using simple household ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 clean glass jar or plastic container
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- Food coloring (your choice)
- Dish soap (optional for extra fizz)
- Glitter (optional for visual flair)
- A tray or baking sheet (to contain the eruption)
Instructions
- Set up your workspace on a tray or baking sheet to catch any overflow.
- Pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the bottom of the jar.
- Add a squirt of dish soap if desired for extra bubbles.
- Stir in a few drops of food coloring to the baking soda mix.
- Slowly pour about 1/2 cup of vinegar into the jar with baking soda.
- Stand back and watch the eruption!
Notes
Experiment with different colors and containers for unique effects. Conduct the experiment outdoors or in a sink to minimize clean-up.
