Description

A fun and educational project that mimics a volcanic eruption using simple household ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 clean glass jar or plastic container
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • Food coloring (your choice)
  • Dish soap (optional for extra fizz)
  • Glitter (optional for visual flair)
  • A tray or baking sheet (to contain the eruption)

Instructions

  1. Set up your workspace on a tray or baking sheet to catch any overflow.
  2. Pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the bottom of the jar.
  3. Add a squirt of dish soap if desired for extra bubbles.
  4. Stir in a few drops of food coloring to the baking soda mix.
  5. Slowly pour about 1/2 cup of vinegar into the jar with baking soda.
  6. Stand back and watch the eruption!

Notes

Experiment with different colors and containers for unique effects. Conduct the experiment outdoors or in a sink to minimize clean-up.
