A fun and engaging DIY project that merges science with creativity, teaching about chemical reactions through a colorful eruption.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 empty glass jar or plastic bottle
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- 1 cup vinegar
- Liquid food coloring (your choice of colors)
- 1 tablespoon dish soap
- 1 cup water
- Tray or large plate (to catch overflow)
Instructions
- Place the glass jar or plastic bottle on a tray or large plate to catch any overflow.
- Pour in 1 cup of water.
- Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and stir until dissolved.
- Incorporate 1 tablespoon of dish soap and mix gently.
- Add a few drops of your chosen liquid food coloring.
- Slowly pour 1 cup of vinegar into the jar with the other ingredients.
- Stand back and enjoy the colorful, fizzy eruption as the mixture bubbles and foams over the top of the jar!
Notes
For a sparkly effect, add edible glitter before the eruption. This activity is best performed outdoors to manage any mess.
