Description

A fun and engaging DIY project that merges science with creativity, teaching about chemical reactions through a colorful eruption.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 empty glass jar or plastic bottle
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • Liquid food coloring (your choice of colors)
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap
  • 1 cup water
  • Tray or large plate (to catch overflow)

Instructions

  1. Place the glass jar or plastic bottle on a tray or large plate to catch any overflow.
  2. Pour in 1 cup of water.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and stir until dissolved.
  4. Incorporate 1 tablespoon of dish soap and mix gently.
  5. Add a few drops of your chosen liquid food coloring.
  6. Slowly pour 1 cup of vinegar into the jar with the other ingredients.
  7. Stand back and enjoy the colorful, fizzy eruption as the mixture bubbles and foams over the top of the jar!

Notes

For a sparkly effect, add edible glitter before the eruption. This activity is best performed outdoors to manage any mess.
