Description

A fun and educational DIY project to create a colorful lava lamp, perfect for Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Ingredients

  • Clear plastic bottle (empty soda or water bottle)
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil
  • Food coloring (red or pink)
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets or baking soda
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Funnel (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start with a clean bottle: Ensure your plastic bottle is thoroughly washed and dried.
  2. Fill the bottle with water: Leave some space at the top for bubbling action.
  3. Add food coloring: Use 10-15 drops of red or pink food coloring for that Valentine’s vibe.
  4. Pour in vegetable oil: Slowly add oil to fill the bottle almost to the top, leaving a bit of space.
  5. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet: Cut it into smaller pieces for better reaction.
  6. Drop the tablet in: Watch as the colored water bubbles up and creates a lava-like effect!
  7. Observe the reactions: The effervescence creates mesmerizing movements that mimic a lava lamp.
  8. Add glitter: For an extra special touch, sprinkle in some glitter!
  9. Seal the bottle: If you want it to last, seal the top with a lid or tape.

Notes

Customize your lava lamp with different colors and bottles for unique looks. Swap Alka-Seltzer with baking soda and vinegar if preferred.
