Description

Delight in the magical process of creating delicate spun sugar snowflakes, perfect for winter-themed occasions and edible decorations.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Optional: food coloring
  • Optional: flavor extracts (vanilla or almond)
  • Parchment paper
  • Candy thermometer
  • Whisk or fork
  • Flat surface or baking sheet
  • Cotton candy machine (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by clearing a flat surface and laying down parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, mix 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1/4 cup of water and place it over medium heat, stirring until fully dissolved.
  3. Monitor the temperature with a candy thermometer until it reaches 320°F (160°C).
  4. Once at the desired temperature, remove from heat and let it cool for a minute.
  5. If using a cotton candy machine, pour in the syrup as directed. If not, use a whisk or fork to dip into the syrup and flick it over your parchment paper, creating thin strands.
  6. Continue winding the sugar around itself to form snowflake shapes.
  7. Allow spun sugar to cool completely before carefully lifting it from the parchment.

Notes

For colorful snowflakes, add food coloring to the sugar mixture. You can also infuse the syrup with flavor extracts for added taste. Store finished snowflakes in an airtight container away from humidity for best results.
