Description
Create beautiful and durable salt dough ornaments using simple household ingredients. A fun and engaging craft for all ages.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- Mixing bowl
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper (optional)
- Rolling pin
- Cookie cutters (optional)
- Acrylic paint or markers (for decorating)
- Clear sealant (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour with 1 cup of salt. Gradually add 1 cup of water while mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
- Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface using a rolling pin to your desired thickness (about 1/4 inch thick). Use cookie cutters to create shapes, and punch holes at the top for hanging.
- Place your shaped ornaments on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 2-3 hours until they are hard and dry. Let cool completely.
- Once cooled, paint your ornaments with acrylic paint or markers and let them dry. Optionally, apply a clear sealant for durability.
Notes
Customize your ornaments with glitter or other embellishments. Consider using gluten-free flour for a different variation. Store leftover dough tightly wrapped in plastic in the fridge for up to a week.
