Description

Create stunning crystalline decorations through this engaging DIY project that combines art and science, perfect for all ages.

Ingredients

  • Borax (1/2 cup)
  • Water (2 cups)
  • Pipe cleaners (green for leaves, brown for trunks)
  • A clean glass jar (or cup)
  • Craft string (optional for hanging)
  • Pencil or stick
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Heat source (like a stove)

Instructions

  1. Twist pipe cleaners into tree shapes, using brown for the trunk and green for the leaves.
  2. Boil 2 cups of water in a pot. Gradually add 1/2 cup of Borax while stirring until fully dissolved.
  3. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the Borax solution.
  4. Attach the tree structure to a pencil or stick and suspend it in the glass jar.
  5. Carefully pour the Borax solution into the jar, ensuring the tree is submerged.
  6. Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed area and wait 6-10 hours or overnight for crystals to form.
  7. Once formed, gently remove the tree and let it dry on a paper towel.

Notes

Customize the shapes and sizes of your trees. You can also experiment with different materials like sugar or salt for varying crystal types.
