Ingredients
- Borax (sodium borate)
- Water
- Food coloring (optional)
- String
- Pencil or stick for suspension
- Jar or container for growing crystals
- Pot for boiling water
Instructions
- Begin by boiling about 2 cups of water in the pot.
- Gradually add 3 tablespoons of borax to the boiling water, stirring continuously until fully dissolved.
- If you’d like colorful crystals, add a few drops of food coloring to the borax solution. Stir to distribute the color.
- Tie one end of the string to the pencil or stick so that it hangs down when placed across the top of the jar.
- Dip the string into the borax solution, ensuring it is coated, then suspend it in the center of the jar without touching the sides.
- Pour the borax solution into the jar, covering the string completely.
- Position the jar in a quiet, undisturbed location.
- Let it sit for about 6 to 24 hours, and watch as the crystals begin to form.
- Once the desired crystal size is achieved, remove the string.
- Enjoy your beautiful rainbow borax crystals!
