Description

Create a vibrant lava lamp suncatcher that brightens your space with colorful light reflections, mixing art and science in a fun craft project.


Ingredients

  • Empty plastic bottle (clear)
  • Vegetable oil
  • Water
  • Food coloring (your choice of colors)
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets (or similar effervescent tablets)
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Clear tape
  • Scissors
  • Light source (sunny window or lamp)

Instructions

  1. Clean the Bottle: Ensure your plastic bottle is clean and dry.
  2. Pour vegetable oil into the bottle, filling it about two-thirds full.
  3. Add water until the bottle is almost full, leaving some space at the top.
  4. Add several drops of food coloring and watch it sink through the oil.
  5. For extra sparkle, add glitter to the mixture.
  6. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into pieces.
  7. Drop small pieces into the mixture one at a time; watch the colorful bubbles rise and fall.
  8. Seal the cap of the bottle with clear tape if desired.
  9. Place your suncatcher by a sunny window or under a lamp.

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations and bottle shapes for unique results. Glitter is optional but adds a magical effect.
