Description

Create stunning decorative lanterns using simple materials for a delightful craft project suitable for all ages.

Ingredients

  • Glass jars (empty and clean)
  • Tissue paper in various colors
  • Mod Podge or white school glue
  • Paintbrushes
  • Battery-operated tea lights
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon or twine (for embellishment)
  • Optional: decorative stickers or paints

Instructions

  1. Clean the jar thoroughly and ensure it’s dried.
  2. Cut or tear the tissue paper into small pieces (about 2 inches wide).
  3. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge or glue around the jar’s exterior with a paintbrush.
  4. Place torn pieces of tissue paper on the jar, overlapping slightly, and smooth out with the brush.
  5. Continue layering tissue paper until the jar is completely covered.
  6. Apply another layer of Mod Podge over the top to seal.
  7. Allow the lantern to dry completely for a few hours.
  8. Insert a battery-operated tea light inside the jar.
  9. Add a ribbon or twine around the top for embellishment.

Notes

Customize colors, use stencils for designs, and experiment with jar sizes for variety. It’s safer to use battery-operated lights instead of real candles.
