Description
A nostalgic, chewy taffy made with colorful Kool-Aid flavors that’s perfect for the whole family.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup corn syrup
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 package (0.13 oz) Kool-Aid (any flavor)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Optional: powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, butter, Kool-Aid, salt, and vanilla extract. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture is well combined.
- Increase heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil. Do not stir once boiling; allow it to boil for about 5-7 minutes or until it reaches the hard ball stage (250°F or 121°C on a candy thermometer).
- Remove from heat and let it sit for about 5 minutes to cool slightly. After it’s cool enough to handle, butter your hands and begin to pull and knead the taffy until it becomes smooth and shiny.
- Stretch and fold the taffy repeatedly for about 5-10 minutes until it reaches your desired consistency. Shape it into a log or cut it into bite-sized pieces.
- Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Store in an airtight container or wrap pieces in wax paper.
Notes
Experiment with different Kool-Aid flavors for unique combinations and mix in nuts or chocolate chips for extra texture.
