Description

Combine science and art with this fun Kool-Aid Fireworks Eruption activity that teaches kids about chemical reactions while creating a colorful spectacle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet of Kool-Aid (any flavor or color)
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • Clear cup or small container
  • Tray or baking sheet (to catch spills)
  • Food coloring (optional for extra effects)
  • Water (optional, if needed)
  • Safety goggles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Space: Clear a flat surface and place the tray or baking sheet underneath to catch any overflow.
  2. Mix the Kool-Aid: In a clear cup, mix the Kool-Aid packet with 1/2 cup of water. Stir until fully dissolved.
  3. Make the Baking Soda Base: In a separate bowl, combine the baking soda with a few drops of water to create a thick paste.
  4. Create the Eruption: Scoop out the baking soda mix and add it to your tray. Once arranged, drizzle or pour the Kool-Aid mixture over the baking soda.
  5. Add the Vinegar: Carefully pour 1 cup of vinegar over the Kool-Aid and baking soda mix. Observe the show: Watch for fizzing and bubbling as the reaction occurs, creating colorful eruptions!

Notes

Supervise children during the experiment, especially when mixing. Clean up with water and a damp cloth.
