Description

Create stunning icy Borax crystal snowflakes, perfect for winter-themed decorations and educational fun.

Ingredients

  • Borax powder
  • Water
  • Clear jar or cup (mason jars work well)
  • String or pipe cleaner (for snowflake structure)
  • Pencil or stick (to suspend the snowflakes)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Pot for boiling water

Instructions

  1. Create your snowflake shape using a pipe cleaner.
  2. Boil about 2 cups of water in a pot.
  3. Add 3 tablespoons of Borax for every cup of water to the boiling water and stir until fully dissolved.
  4. Optionally, mix in a few drops of food coloring.
  5. Tie the snowflake shape to a pencil or stick and lay it across the top of the jar, allowing it to hang down into the solution.
  6. Let the jar sit undisturbed in a cool area overnight for crystals to form.
  7. After 6-12 hours, carefully remove the snowflake and let it dry completely before displaying.

Notes

You can add glitter for extra sparkle or experiment with different colors and shapes.
