Description
A fun and colorful craft project that combines science and art, perfect for all ages.
Ingredients
- Clear plastic or glass jar (preferably a mason jar)
- Water
- Vegetable or mineral oil
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Effervescent tablets (like Alka-Seltzer or similar)
- A small funnel (optional)
- Scissors
- Decorative materials (optional, such as glitter or small beads)
Instructions
- Clean the jar thoroughly to ensure a clear view of your lava lamp suncatcher. Use a funnel if necessary to aid in pouring liquids without spills.
- Add water to the jar, filling it about one-third full.
- Pour the oil gently over the water, filling the jar almost to the top while leaving some space for the expansion of bubbles.
- Drop about 5-7 drops of food coloring into the jar and observe how the color sinks through the oil and disperses into the water.
- Break up an effervescent tablet into pieces and add one piece at a time to the jar to create the lava effect.
- Optionally, customize your suncatcher by adding glitter or small decorative beads and seal the jar if desired.
Notes
Experiment with different combinations of food coloring and decorative materials to personalize your suncatchers. Supervise younger children when crafting.
