Description

A fun and educational activity that demonstrates principles of buoyancy and chemical reactions using simple materials.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1 clear glass or jar
  • Water
  • 12 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start with a clear glass or jar for visibility. Fill the jar halfway with water and add a few drops of food coloring, if desired.
  2. Carefully add 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels to the jar.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1/2 cup of white vinegar.
  4. Slowly pour your fizzy mixture into the jar with the kernels.
  5. Stand back and enjoy as the reaction causes the corn to rise and fall, creating a mesmerizing “dance.”

Notes

The dancing effect lasts for about 10-15 minutes. Consider swapping ingredients for unique effects or adding glitter for a festive look.
