Ingredients

- 2 cups of water
- 1/2 cup of borax (sodium borate)
- String or pipe cleaner (for crystal formation)
- Pencil or stick (to suspend the string)
- Food coloring (optional, for color)
- Heat-resistant jar or glass
- Measuring cup
- Stovetop or microwave (for heating water)
Instructions
- Cut a piece of string about 12 inches long and tie it to a pencil or stick.
- Boil 2 cups of water, then gradually add 1/2 cup of borax, stirring until completely dissolved.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to the solution if desired and stir well.
- Pour the borax solution into the heat-resistant jar, suspend the string ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom, and leave it untouched in a cool place.
- After several hours, monitor the crystal formation; for best results, leave overnight.
- Once satisfied with the crystal size, gently remove the string and let the crystals dry before displaying.
Notes
Experiment with different shapes and colors, and consider adding glitter for extra sparkle!
