Instructions

- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, mix the granulated sugar, corn syrup, butter, and salt.
- Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Insert a candy thermometer, cooking until it reaches 250°F (hard ball stage).
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Let the candy sit for about 10 minutes until it’s cool enough to handle.
- Lightly butter your hands to prevent sticking.
- Grab a piece of taffy and stretch it gently, folding it over itself repeatedly until it becomes glossy and light in color (about 10-15 minutes).
- Roll it into a log and cut into bite-sized pieces. Dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
