Description

A nostalgic homemade taffy recipe that’s perfect for family gatherings, bringing joy and sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or flavor of your choice)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, mix the granulated sugar, corn syrup, butter, and salt.
  3. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Insert a candy thermometer, cooking until it reaches 250°F (hard ball stage).
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Let the candy sit for about 10 minutes until it’s cool enough to handle.
  7. Lightly butter your hands to prevent sticking.
  8. Grab a piece of taffy and stretch it gently, folding it over itself repeatedly until it becomes glossy and light in color (about 10-15 minutes).
  9. Roll it into a log and cut into bite-sized pieces. Dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.

Notes

For flavor alternatives, experiment with different extracts like almond or mint. Ensure no cross-contamination if making for those with nut allergies.
