Description
Learn how to create your own beautiful scented candles at home, customizable with your favorite fragrances and colors.
Ingredients
- Soy wax flakes (or beeswax)
- Fragrance oils (your choice of scent)
- Candle wicks
- Wick holders or adhesive
- Double boiler or microwave-safe container
- Thermometer
- Stirring spoon or stick
- Dye (optional)
- Candle jars or molds
Instructions
- Prepare the work area by laying down newspaper or a craft mat to catch spills and gather all materials close by.
- Place soy wax flakes in the double boiler and heat gently until melted, stirring occasionally. Aim for around 180°F (82°C).
- Remove from heat and add fragrance oils (approximately 1 ounce per pound of wax) and dye if desired. Stir thoroughly.
- Attach the wick to the center of your jar or mold using adhesive or a wick holder, ensuring it’s straight and centered.
- Allow the wax to cool slightly to around 140°F (60°C) before pouring into the jars, leaving some space at the top.
- Use a wick holder to keep the wick centered as the candle sets, and let cool completely (about 4-6 hours).
- After cooling, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch above the surface.
Notes
Customize scents by blending different fragrance oils and use natural dyes for a sustainable option.
