A nostalgic and customizable treat made from sugar, corn syrup, and flavorings that yields chewy, delightful saltwater taffy.
Ingredients

- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or flavor of your choice)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Butter (for greasing)
Instructions
- Grease a large baking sheet or marble surface with butter.
- Gather all materials and tools.
- In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan and cook without stirring until the mixture reaches 250°F.
- Remove from heat, add vanilla extract and food coloring, and stir gently.
- Allow the mixture to cool for 5-10 minutes until safe to handle.
- Butter your hands and begin pulling the taffy until shiny and smooth.
- Shape into a long rope and cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Wrap each piece in parchment paper and store in an airtight container.
Notes
Experiment with different flavors and colors. Store taffy in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
