Description

Delightful and customizable homemade popping candy that brings fun and fizz to any sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon flavored extract (like vanilla or fruit)
  • 1 teaspoon citric acid
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Popping candy crystals (available at candy stores)

Instructions

  1. Gather all the materials on a clean, flat surface and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan.
  3. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Remove from heat and quickly stir in baking soda, flavored extract, and food coloring if using.
  5. Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and let it cool completely at room temperature.
  6. Break the hardened mixture into small pieces and crumble them if desired.
  7. Sprinkle the popping candy crystals over your hard candy pieces, combining gently to coat.

Notes

Experiment with flavor and color variations; store in an airtight container.
