Instructions
- Gather all the materials on a clean, flat surface and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in baking soda, flavored extract, and food coloring if using.
- Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and let it cool completely at room temperature.
- Break the hardened mixture into small pieces and crumble them if desired.
- Sprinkle the popping candy crystals over your hard candy pieces, combining gently to coat.
