Description

Create your own delightful homemade popping candy that’s fizzy, flavorful, and fun to make!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 tbsp flavored extract (like cherry, vanilla, etc.)
  • 1/2 tsp citric acid (for added fizz)
  • Cornstarch (for dusting)
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Ensure your workspace is clean and dry; gather all your materials and tools.
  2. Heat Sugar Mixture: In a non-stick pan, combine the granulated sugar and corn syrup, and heat over medium. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Monitor Temperature: Use a candy thermometer to monitor the mixture. Bring it to around 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Add Ingredients: Once the desired temperature is reached, remove from heat and quickly mix in baking soda, flavored extract, citric acid, and food coloring (if using).
  5. Cool and Break: Pour the mixture onto a dusted baking sheet to cool. Once set, break into pieces.
  6. Store Safely: Store your completed popping candy in an airtight container to preserve its crunch.

Notes

Experiment with flavors and colors to create your own personalized treats. For a more decadent version, consider dipping them in chocolate.
