Description

Easy-to-make, vibrant homemade play dough that encourages creativity and fine motor skills in children.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Airtight container (for storage)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine water, vegetable oil, and a few drops of food coloring (if desired). Stir well until combined.
  3. Gradually pour the dry ingredients into the saucepan, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Keep stirring as the mixture thickens, eventually forming a ball in the center of the pan.
  4. Once the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan, remove it from heat. Allow it to cool slightly, then knead it on a clean surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place your homemade play dough into an airtight container to keep it fresh. Store in a cool, dry place for up to several months.

Notes

Try mixing colors, adding scents, or incorporating glitter for extra fun! Store in an airtight container for freshness.
