Description

A safe and non-toxic homemade play dough recipe that sparks creativity for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Essential oils (optional for scent)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar. Stir until mixed.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add food coloring if desired.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir well.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the dough thickens and begins to come away from the sides of the pan, usually about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Once thickened, remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  6. Once cool enough to handle, knead the dough on a clean surface for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  7. If desired, add a few drops of essential oils for a nice scent during play.

Notes

Store homemade play dough in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Freeze for extended shelf life.
