Description

A fun and educational project creating your own mesmerizing lava lamp using simple materials.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 clear plastic bottle or jar (with a lid)
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil (or baby oil)
  • Food coloring
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets (or baking soda and vinegar)
  • Optional: Glitter or small decorations
  • Funnel (for easy pouring)

Instructions

  1. Clean and dry your bottle or jar thoroughly and place it on a stable surface.
  2. Use a funnel to pour water into the bottle, filling it about one-fourth full.
  3. Slowly pour vegetable oil into the bottle, filling it up most of the way.
  4. Add several drops of food coloring to the bottle.
  5. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into smaller pieces and drop one into the bottle.
  6. For continuous fun, drop more tablet pieces into the bottle to create ongoing lava action.

Notes

For a longer-lasting lava effect, use baking soda and vinegar instead of Alka-Seltzer. Experiment with different color combinations and decorations for a personalized touch.
